Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis

It is a kidney ailment that can appear after an infection with group Astreptococcal bacteria that affects the throat or skin..

It is usually a common disease in children from the age of 4 to adolescents aged 14 and in adults over the age of 60.

Symptoms appear after about 10 days after infection in the throat or 3 weeks after skin infection.

Usually the patient presents an inflammation of the face and lower extremities at the same time his urine is scarce and is dark brown or bloody, signs that are observed in 70% of those affected.

It has an immune origin,so it is not spread to other people as it can happen if its origin is by direct infection of group A streptococci.

Streptococcus bacteria causes tonsillitis and also skin infections, glomerulonephritis is due to the autoimmune system attacking kidney cells by mistake by confusing them with group A streptococcus bacteria that caused the infection in the throat or skin.

symptoms:

  • Swelling in the face, eyes, hands, or feet
  • Frequent urination
  • weariness

There is no specific medication for this ailment,, although it is necessary to monitor the kidneys while the patient is cured, the little ones usually recover in 6 to 8 weeks, but adults manifest complications that slows recovery and in patients who have repeated infections can trigger chronic kidney problems or suffer from high blood pressure.

This ailment is usually treated with rest, change of diet, antibiotics, diuretics, digitalis, hypotensive, sometimes hospitalization and dialysis.
