Virus Dengue

Dengue is a disease transmitted by the bite of a mosquito Aedes aegypti and albopictus, these infect us with an RNA pathogen of the family of the Flaviviridae and according to the autoimmune system of the host, as the vector the symptoms can be from mild to fatal.

Beita JJ, Salazar AN, Valverde GM. Pathogenesis of dengue virus disease.. Review of the literature. Rev Clin Esc Med. 2016;6(2):11-17.

According to the WHO there are three categories of Dengue:

  • Dengue fever
  • Fever with bleeding
  • Shock syndrome

Symptoms

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Headache
  • Severe bleeding
  • Abdominal pain
  • Pleural effusion
  • Rashes
  • Mucosal bleeding
  • Shortness of breath
  • Severe organ condition
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Plasma decrease with shock

The disease usually occurs in tropical or subtropical countries, mosquitoes are infected for life.

Knowing if you have Dengue is complicated since the symptoms that the disease develops are similar to other diseases such as malaria or typhoid fever, a blood test can detect the pathogen in the blood.

There is no specific treatment to cure this disease, good hydration and rest can help cope with symptoms, in more serious cases the patient should be hospitalized.

You can use our CDS protocol finder to locate a disease and its treatment with Chlorine Dioxide CLO2.
